THE BLUE CAVE

One of the most beautiful underwater caves of the Mediterranean, located on the south of the island, the ‘Blue Cave’ or differently ‘The cave of Parasta’, is for many the reason why they visit this border island. 20 minutes away from the main port by boat, this magnificent secret of nature has 75 meters length and hides an impressive color palette and a thick decoration of stalactites.

Visitors enter the cave sitting stooped on a small fishing boat. Swimming in this emerald secret lake is a unique experience.

THE CASTLE

The fortress of the Crusaders Knights of St. John dates back on the 14th century. It was built at the top of the red rock (Castello Rosso) overlooking the port.

THE LYCIAN TOMB

A perfectly preserved tomb of the 4th century with Dorian façade, carved under the castle right at the entrance of the port. It’s worth mentioning that the’ Lycians’ were the inhabitants of ‘Lycia’ an area of Turkey opposite the island. There, their God Apollo the Lycian was worshiped as wolf killer.

PALAIOKASTRO

The most important monument and the earliest on the island, located on the west part of Kastellorizo. It’s an ancient settlement with ruins of houses, water tanks and a Dorian Acropolis of the 3rd century where the sign with the name ‘Megisti’ is saved. In the area of ‘Limenari’, defensive walls are saved, built in the style of the ‘Cyclopean Walls’ of the Mycenaes. Around the castle there are the churches of the Virgin’s of the Castle, St. Mary’s, St. Paraskevi’s and St. Nikolas.

THE METROPOLIS OF ST. CONSTANTINE AND HELEN

At the area of ‘Mandraki’ dominates the Metropolis of St. Constantine and Helen built in 1835. It’s a temple of exceptional architecture with domes, a marble belfry and unique hagiographies. Its roof is supported by twelve granite pillars that were transferred from the temple of Apollo of Lycia, Patara-Turkey.

THE ARCHAEOLOGICAL MUSEUM

It is housed in a monument near the ruins of the Castle and the its exhibits include archaeological findings of valuable price ,objects dated back to the palaeochristian and byzantine period, frescos of the 17th century as well as objects of folk art .

ST GEORGE OF THE MOUNTAIN

The Monastery of St George with the catacomb of St. Charalambos is located at the top of the mountain above the residential area. By following the 408 whitewashed steps you will reach the Monastery of St. George one of exceptional beauty. There, a church was built in 1759 by Anthimo. Going down the ten steps visitor will find himself in the catacomb of St. Charalambos, staggering place due to its sacramental character. It has been recently restored.

ST. GEORGE OF THE ISLAND

Very close to the island of Kastellorizo there is the little island of St George with the tiny monastery of St. George and the great bay which is widely visited by local and tourists as both as a little escape and pilgrimage to the Saint.

THE ISLAND OF RHO

Next to the island of Kastellorizo is the island of ‘Rho’, well-known for the ‘Lady of Rho’, Despoina Achladioti. For many years she has been raising the Greek flag against the Turkish provocativeness. The Greeks were thrilled and the state honored her.
